We were thrilled to be asked to be the featured Cape Cod Bed and Breakfast on the 2013 Christmas House Tour of Harwich, a much awaited event that only takes place on Cape Cod every three years. We and 5 other architecturally significant (and über-decorated!) houses were chosen by the Harwich Garden Club, who provided all the fabulous floral arrangements, to be highlighted on this festive event.
Over 400 people toured the houses and enjoyed Harwich Garden Club cookies and our special Platinum Pebble Punch as they passed through our inn. A demographic note for single men; it was about an hour into the tour before the first brave man was spotted and in all women outnumbered men by about 30 to 1! Not bad odds.
The Xmas House Tour is a part of Christmas in Harwich , which is one of the larger Christmas events that takes place every year on Cape Cod. Before the tour we were assigned our team of helpers from the Garden Club and they created the most wonderful festive arrangements to adorn the inn. One of our favourite arrangements was the platinum horseshoe crab wreath that sat at the front of the inn. It captured the spirit of Xmas, Cape Cod and The Platinum Pebble. The other 5 houses on the tour were dotted around Harwich and all had something of architectural interest. Some were 1800 sea captain’s houses in the Greek Revivalist style or modern houses with interesting designs. We were selected because of our unique contemporary interior design within a historic 1870’s home.
We were grateful that the rain stayed away for the day, although as the afternoon went on the temperatures started to get a wee bit chilly so the outdoor fire-pit become a stopping point for most. The larger outdoor fireplace was watched over by “Vince” our red ant and couldn’t be lit so as to protect our yule logs!
Thank you to all who participated in the tour and especially to the wonderful members of the Harwich Garden Club!
Safe travels
Simon
