Thanksgiving 2013 marked the inaugural “Platinum Pebble Dash“, a new Thanksgiving tradition for the inn. This is a 5 mile run & 5 Km walk from our friends Wendy and Mick’s house on t’other side of Harwich to The Platinum Pebble Boutique Inn. Cape Cod already has a couple of Turkey Trots but I think it’s safe to say none boasted the international field of our new run. Athletes (and I use the term in its loosest form!) had flown in from Australia and Europe as well as points across the US of A.
Race kick-off was 9.30am and the Cape Cod weather was fully cooperating with bright blue skies and above zero temps (although only just, so sexy leggings were de rigeur for all).
The early pace was very hot but things started to slow down by the end of Wendy & Mick’s driveway. The race then settled into a more refined pace with the lead changing hands several times before eventually the ladies took control (in running as in life). Deb came home in blistering time to take the tape with Suz following closely on her heels.
All the runners were then treated to a special Platinum Pebble Inn brunch with a smorgasbord of goodies and regenerative (a special for Dr Who fans) drinks.
Participants were generous enough to donate an “entry” fee that will be passed on to the Harwich Conservation Trust, so that our heroic efforts bring something good to the wonderful town of Harwich.
The Platinum Pebble Dash will be an annual event to mark Thanksgiving and raise money for a worthy Harwich cause. So see you in 2014!
Safe travels,
Simon
