Visit Nauset Lighthouse's website
Built in 1837, the trio of towers acquired a famous nickname, the "Three Sisters of Nauset." The name is frequently said to have originated because the towers looked like three demure ladies in white dresses, with and black hats. Replaced by three new towers in 1892 as shore erosion had endangered the original three. From 1911 onwards only one lighthouse was operational. This single lighthouse, and the last of the "Three Sisters", was replaced by a lighthouse moved from Chatham to Nauset in 1923. This lighthouse was moved back in 1996 due to further beach erosion. The "Three Sisters" are open to the public.
